MEMBRA DISJECTA & A LIFE IN STONE

About

Gonzalo Fonseca and The Heart of Stone

A documentary film on Gonzalo Fonseca.

The artist Gonzalo Fonseca was a man of the world. The student of a great master, Fonseca was an explorer of lost worlds and forgotten realms. Adrift in the succession of centuries, Fonseca was of his time and of no time at all.  History and the ages ran through him.

Until his death in 1997, Fonseca spent his entire life preoccupied by the translation of ancient forms into modern shape.  Under his hands, inert rock took on magical character.

Gonzalo Fonseca embodied the entire history of world art, but art history has all but forgotten him.

“Gonzalo Fonseca: Membra Disjecta & a life in stone” is a documentary portrait that excavates and reassembles the scattered remains of Gonzalo Fonseca, collecting the varied sources of his influence and biography to discover the hard-fought wisdom of this timeless and enigmatic artist.
